September/ October

Rounding off the event calendar for the year with a blast in Lake Garda. Winter training plans formulate an intense few months ahead!

Final event of the year done; now a winter of training begins!

We’ve packed in some solid training these Autumn months, including a trip to Lake Garda for a process regatta, with a particular focus on starting. We made some huge improvements throughout the regatta, feeling like we really made a breakthrough with our starting routines. On the last day we could execute the starts we wanted and ended up with 3 good races. It is very important to split up the regattas throughout the year into process and outcome regattas, giving ourselves space to make mistakes and try new things/work on a particular aspect. We came away with a decent result too! Finishing up 5th overall, behind 3 ex-olympic teams (an Italian and 2 German teams) and one of our usual rivals. It’s great to have the new ex-olympic teams starting to filter into our fleet, pushing us hard and creating some fierce competition!

We have some exiting winter plans; A December camp in Miami, linking up with the Americans and top Italian team. Followed by January in Vilamoura, joining the rest of the British sailing team and linking up with foreigners too. A coaches regatta in February with a block of training in the lead up. And then we head to Palma for a whole month of training with the rest of the international fleet before the Princess Sofia regatta begins in April! Peppered into this winter of 470 sailing, we have Etchells events based out in Miami with our usual team of David Franks and Graham Sunderland; so we are excited to push for some good results there too!

So, many hours lined up on the water, we are excited to get stuck in and ready to give it everything in preparation for our trials process. Princess Sofia and Hyeres are particularly important events for us as they are the selection events for the Olympic test event at the end of July. Only the top 2 British teams will be selected for this.

The British sailing team have been impressed with our progress and see potential for the 2024 Olympics so have moved us up a level on the UK sport funding ladder. This is pivotal for us as now we can start budgeting for more coaching and travel for events. Exciting times!

Upcoming events ...

  • Vilamoura GP, 19-23 February

  • Princess Sofia regatta, Palma, Spain, 1-9 April

  • Hyeres regatta, France, 21-30 April

  • Olympic test event, Marseille, France, 27 July - 5 August

We also have a different sort of event coming up... we are doing a talk at our local club (Royal Lymington Yacht club) about our campaign on the 24th of November at 6:30, as part of the Winter lecture series. Please come along if you’re interested learn about about how we began as a team, what campaigning is like day-to-day and how we aim to get to the 2024 Olympics. Would be great to see a full room and answer lots of questions. Please spread the word! Hopefully see you there! All our events and event websites are linked on our website: WEBSITE: https://www.ryvitasailing.com/ Please please share this with anyone who you think might be interested; they have the chance to help our team go to the Olympic Games! We need the funds now more that ever to get that jump over our competition. Unfortunately, in the sport of sailing there is a direct correlation between money and success.

At the moment the most beneficial thing to our progress would be funds for a coach. We only get 8 days a month with a coach through the team, the rest we have to source ourselves. Having a coach out on the water with us makes the sessions so much more productive and valuable. A private coach is between £300-£500 per day, so if anyone is keen to help us on our journey to 2024 this would be a hugely positive contribution.

We are immensely grateful to everyone who has been supporting us, you support and encouragement means a lot to us and gives the confidence to keep fighting! Not long now until our Olympic trials!

As always, any contribution to travel, accommodation, entry costs (etc) will be massively appreciated and will go along way!

If you want to help us out on our journey to Paris 2024 or want to chat, then please give us a call! Vita – 07586349225 Email – vitaryangbr11@gmail.com For some gnarly pics and updates on our progress, check out: Facebook – RyVita Sailing Instagram – RyVita470sailing
